Indivisible Abroad strongly condemns US attacks on Venezuela and threats to the sovereignty of Greenland, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, and Canada

Indivisible Abroad* strongly condemns the Trump regime’s attacks in the Caribbean Sea that killed over 80 people. We also condemn the subsequent attack of the Venezuelan mainland and the abduction of its president and his wife. We further condemn threats the Trump regime has made to the sovereignty of Greenland, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, and Canada. Such expansionist action violates both the US Constitution and Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter:

All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.

With respect to Greenland, an autonomous territory within Denmark, seven leaders of European nations allied with the US, including Denmark, firmly and jointly stated that:

…Greenland belongs to its people. It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland.

Indivisible Abroad strongly concurs. This statement is in accordance with the UN charter and NATO agreements. The US is a founding member of both, and attacks on another member state, which Denmark is, would be a grave and unprecedented violation. We believe such a violation does not benefit the residents of any nation, including the US, and could create global instability and potentially war.

In the US, many organizations have condemned these attacks and threats including among others: Indivisible, Democratic Socialists of America, MoveOn, and 50501. Protests and other actions are ongoing in the US and abroad. We stand in solidarity with the protestors. Many US lawmakers have also spoken up. Although we commend these lawmakers, swift and definitive action is required. Specifically, Indivisible Abroad demands that:

Finally, we ask allies across the globe to stand with US residents in defeating the Trump regime, which we believe threatens global peace and justice.
